Artist Statement:
Hello.
Well, this is my art show. It is my first solo show. I am not good at writing artist’s statements because I feel like they mostly sound rather dry and pretentious. Or, they don’t make any sense. I hope this makes much more sense.
These paintings evolved from Richard Heipp’s Series Painting class. They are the first paintings I have done of people. Some of them are of my good friend Lindsey. Some of them are me. Most of the subjects were chosen because of proximity of the artists, others were inspired by fashion magazines.
Some of you more serious, scholarly types may be wondering, “concept”? What exactly is this about? Well, you can say that these paintings are an attempt to view the subject through an instinctual and reactionary way. The choice of color comes from a desire to recreate mood as well as further abstract the composition. The concept evolved organically from the process that comes with the desire to depict a face, a likeness. Eventually the idea of “likeness” was discarded.
