The pictures in this exhibition are the result of an assignment I gave to a seminar on creativity I taught in the Honors College in the spring of 2006. Students had to find two photographers whose work they loved, take 100 pictures in the spirit of those masters, then cull them to 10. The 10 were to present the meaning of life in a poetic way meaning, as in all the arts, by showing rather than telling.
The concept of interpolating value systems from student photographs was originated by Dr. Bob Ziller, who taught psychology at UF for many years. Because I am a poet and because I think the meaning of life is perhaps too complex to “tell”, I took Dr. Ziller’s innovative idea and moved it away from the literal.
None of the work was done by art majors. Please enjoy it. It is living evidence of the artist we all carry inside.
