The Absence of Color: A Visual Xperience in Black & White

Black and White photography representing aspects of African American history and culture as well as a color photography series entitled "Color of Love" by Daniel Henry, UF student, opens on September 26th and runs until October 13th. A reception will be held on Friday, Septemebr 29th from 7-9pm. Refreshments will be served.

I have been told that a picture is worth a thousand words.

If this is true then these images are far less photography than words - and I strive not so much to be a photographer than to be a poet.

There is a spare and visual elegance to black & white photography. Its starkly eloquent dance of dark and light hues speak to something deep within the subject…something almost spiritual.

Not unlike poetry – in its ability to say so much more with less; its ability to bend connotation to affect the listeners ability to ‘see’ beyond the mere definition of the words in order to gain a deeper and more personal understanding.

As I dress these ‘words’ in black and white and shades of grey, listen closely to the images and consider for a few moments what they are saying to you.

It just might be different than what you originally thought.
