Educating Leaders for a Global Community
While student organizations and involvement opportunities are open to ALL UF students, there are some activities that are of particular interest to Graduate and Professional Students. These include:
There are over 650 student organizations registered at the University of Florida, all of which are open to all students - including graduate and professional students; however, there are over 40 organizations specifically for graduate students. Browse through the student organization list to find those that interest you!
The Graduate Student Council (GSC) serves as a liaison between graduate students and the University administration and also between graduate students and Student Government. Funded by Student Government and, in part, by the Graduate School, GSC gives a voice to graduate student needs, concerns, and ideas and uses its budget to provide a number of services to graduate students. The Graduate Student Council offers a number of conference and research related travel grants to enable UF graduate students to attend conferences and present research. Grants must follow the specific criteria outlined on the GSC website and must be submitted at least 71/2 weeks in advance.
If you live in one of the three Graduate and Family "Village" communities, get involved with the area government to have a voice in what is going on in your community. Opportunities include Mayors' Council, Village Commissions and Village Communities Judicial Board. Speak with your Resident Manager or with the Village Resident Life Coordinator (RLC) to learn more.
One of the most common ways graduate and professional students get involved with Student Government is by becoming senators. There are several senator seats reserved specifically for graduate students, so look out for opportunities to slate for one.
